The Experience
By registering for this KOS Academy Production, your cast member will participate in a fast-paced and fun education in musical theatre: singing, dancing, and acting while working toward a culminating production of DreamWorks' Madagascar – A Musical Adventure JR.

Through full cast and small group rehearsals, cast members will receive training in acting, singing, and dance technique. They will learn theatrical terminology and etiquette, and they will build confidence and explore their creative side in a brave, encouraging, and challenging environment. At this level, we are focusing on character physicality, proper vocal technique, and increasing precision and performance in dance.
At the end of our rehearsal time together, cast members will showcase their learning in a fully produced production with costumes, sets, props, lights, and special effects!

About Madagascar JR
Join Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra, Melman the Giraffe, Gloria the hip hip Hippo and, of course, those hilarious, plotting penguins as they bound onto your stage in the musical adventure of a lifetime. Based on the smash DreamWorks animated motion picture, Madagascar – A Musical Adventure JR. follows all of your favorite crack-a-lackin’ friends as they escape from their home in New York’s Central Park Zoo and find themselves on an unexpected journey to the madcap world of King Julien’s Madagascar.

Alex the lion is the king of the urban jungle, the main attraction at New York's Central Park Zoo. He and his best friends — Marty the zebra, Melman the giraffe and Gloria the hippo — have spent their whole lives in blissful captivity before an admiring public and with regular meals provided for them. Not content to leave well enough alone, Marty lets his curiosity get the better of him and makes his escape — with the help of some prodigious penguins — to explore the world.

Tuition & Other Costs
Tuition for this production experience is $150 per cast member. This production fee includes three months of rehearsals, a cast t-shirt, production materials, and the production script. Financial assistance and payment plans are available. Please email parker@gckidsonstage.org for more information. If you have more than two children participating from the same family, reach out about our siblings discount.

Due to the significant costs associated with producing a high-quality production and the reduced participation fee we offer to families, we require cast members to take part in several planned fundraisers. These efforts help us bridge the gap and ensure the show is a success for everyone involved. Families who prefer not to participate in fundraising may opt to pay a buy-out fee of $225. You can learn more about the costs of producing a KOS production here and planned fundraisers for Madagascar JR here.

Most costumes will require a costume fee for cleaning, alterations, rental fees, or materials. These fees will be sent with the costume breakdowns for each cast member.

Tickets to the performance will be available to parents for purchase prior to the public sale for $10 each.
Schedule
A full rehearsal schedule is attached below. Please look over it closely to make sure your child has minimal conflicts with the rehearsal process and zero conflicts with tech week and show dates. All rehearsals and performances will take place at the Greene County Wellness Center (84 N. Perry Drive, Snow Hill, NC 28580)

At auditions, you will receive a conflict form with an opportunity to tell our Dream Team of any known conflicts with the rehearsal schedule. We will take note of these and plan accordingly.

This show has both FULL CAST (all cast members) and small group rehearsals. After the show has been cast, you will get a rehearsal schedule that has exactly who is called for small group rehearsals.

If you have questions about the schedule and conflicts, please email parker@gckidsonstage.org

Auditions
No experience is needed to participate in this KOS Academy production. While everyone receives a role in this Rising Star Academy Production, auditions are still held to place each cast member in the perfect role for them.
Auditions for Madagascar JR will take place on Sunday, August 3rd, from 2:30-6:30 PM at the Greene County Wellness Center.
After registering for the production, an email will be sent to the parent/guardian with instructions for accessing the scenes & songs needed for auditions. They will be asked to sing, dance, and act using materials provided ahead of the audition.
At home practice for these auditions will be super important because we want cast members to be confident with the material and also perform their very best. However, remember that everyone will get a role in the end. We hope these are low-pressure/low-stakes experiences for our cast members!
