The Experience

SHREK: The Musical is a part of our Mainstage KOS experience and is an audition-only production.  We are committed to producing a high quality-large cast Mainstage production featuring cast members of all ages at least once a season. Those wishing to audition must pre-register before the deadline to receive audition information and a non-refundable audition fee of $10 will be due at the time of auditions. Following auditions, the cast list will be sent out to all those that auditioned. After being cast, the remainder of the production fee ($140), will be due at the first rehearsal. The KOS Academy no-cut policy does not apply to this production.

Mainstage productions are a part of our Next Level Division and are designed for those wishing to participate in a highly professional and unique rehearsal and performance process. From the moment the show is cast, these artists embark on a transformative journey that demands dedication, discipline, and a deep passion for their craft. Surrounded by like-minded individuals who share their unwavering commitment to the art of musical theater, participants in this audition-only experience find themselves in an environment where creativity flourishes, excellence is required, and friendships are made.

At the end of our rehearsal time together, cast members will present a fully produced production with costumes, sets, props, lights, and special effects!

About SHREK: The Musical

Ten years ago, Kids On Stage began with a big green ogre and an even bigger dream. Our very first summer camp production was SHREK The Musical JR, a story about acceptance, bravery, and finding your people. It set the tone for who we are and what we believe: that everyone deserves a stage, a spotlight, and a place to belong. Now, as we celebrate our 10th Anniversary, we are thrilled to present the full Broadway production of SHREK The Musical- honoring where we started while celebrating how far we’ve come.

Based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film, Shrek The Musical is a Tony Award-winning fairy tale adventure, that brings all the beloved characters you know from the film to life on stage and proves there's more to the story than meets the ears.

"Once upon a time, there was a little ogre named Shrek...." And thus begins the tale of an unlikely hero who finds himself on a life-changing journey alongside a wisecracking Donkey and a feisty princess who resists her rescue. Throw in a short-tempered bad guy, a cookie with an attitude and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits, and you've got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero. Luckily, there's one on hand...and his name is Shrek.

CONTENT GUIDE: Contains some mild adult innuendo & language, potty humor and jokes, very mild language and twists on the traditional fairytale characters.

Tuition & Other Costs

Upon casting, tuition for this production experience is $140 per cast member. This production fee will include pre-camp rehearsal, camp experience, a cast t-shirt, production materials, and the production script.

We are committed to keeping Kids On Stage accessible to all families and never want finances to be a barrier to participation. If you are need of financial assistance, you can apply here. If you have more than three children participating from the same family, reach out about our siblings discount.

Several fundraisers are required of the cast to help offset production costs. Parents may pay a buy-out fee of $225 in lieu of participating in the planned fundraisers. You can learn more about the costs of producing a KOS production here and more about the planned fundraisers here

Most costumes will require a costume fee for cleaning, alterations, rental fees, or materials. These fees will be sent with the costume breakdowns for each cast member.

Tickets to the performance will be available to parents for purchase prior to the public sale for $10 each.

Schedule

A full rehearsal schedule is attached below. Please look over it closely to make sure your cast member has minimal conflicts with the rehearsal process and zero conflicts with tech week and show dates.  All rehearsals and performances will take place at the Greene County Wellness Center (84 N. Perry Drive, Snow Hill, NC 28580)

At auditions, you will receive a conflict form with an opportunity to tell our Production Team of any known conflicts with the rehearsal schedule. We will take note of these and plan accordingly.

This show has both FULL CAST (all cast members) and small group rehearsals. After the show has been cast, you will get a rehearsal schedule that has exactly who is called for small group rehearsals.
