Willy Wonka JR

A Rising Star Academy Summer Camp Production

Open Registration for Ages 3-15 (as of May 18)

The Experience

By registering for this Rising Star Academy Summer Camp Production, your cast member will participate in a fast-paced and fun education in musical theatre: singing, dancing, and acting while working toward a culminating production of Willy Wonka JR.

Through pre-camp rehearsals and a week long day camp, cast members will receive training in acting, singing, and dance technique. They will learn theatrical terminology and etiquette, and they will build confidence and explore their creative side in a brave, encouraging, and challenging environment. At this level, we are focusing on character physicality, proper vocal technique, and increasing precision and performance in dance.

At the end of our rehearsal time together, cast members will showcase their learning in a fully produced production with costumes, sets, props, lights, and special effects!

About Willy Wonka JR

The delicious adventures of Willy Wonka's chocolate factory light up the stage in this captivating adaptation of Roald Dahl's fantastical tale. Featuring the enchanting songs from the 1971 film, in addition to a host of fun new songs, Roald Dahl's Willy Wonka JR. is a scrumdidilyumptious musical guaranteed to delight everyone's sweet tooth.

Roald Dahl's Willy Wonka JR. follows enigmatic candy manufacturer Willy Wonka as he stages a contest by hiding golden tickets in five of his scrumptious candy bars. Whomever comes up with these tickets will win a free tour of the Wonka factory, as well as a lifetime supply of candy. Four of the five winning children are insufferable brats, but the fifth is a likeable young lad named Charlie Bucket, who takes the tour in the company of his equally amiable grandfather. The children must learn to follow Mr. Wonka's rules in the factory — or suffer the consequences.

Tuition & Other Costs

Tuition for this summer camp experience is $140 per cast member. This production fee will include all pre-camp rehearsals, the weeklong day camp, a cast t-shirt, production materials, and the production script.  Financial assistance and payment plans are available. Please email parker@gckidsonstage.org for info. If you have more than two children participating from the same family please email parker@gckidsonstage.org for more info about our siblings discount.

Due to the participation cost associated with our program compared to the high cost of producing a production, several fundraisers are required of the cast. Parents may pay a buy-out fee of $250 in lieu of participating in the planned fundraisers. You can read more about the planned fundraisers for Willy Wonka JR here

Most costumes will require a costume fee for cleaning, alterations, rental fees, or materials. These fees will be sent with the costume breakdowns for each cast member.

Tickets to the performance will be available to parents for purchase prior to the public sale for $10 each.

Schedule

A full schedule is attached below. Please look over it closely to make sure your child has minimal conflicts with the rehearsal process and zero conflicts with camp week and show dates.  All rehearsals and performances will take place at the Greene County Wellness Center (84 N. Perry Drive, Snow Hill, NC 28580)

At auditions, you will receive a conflict form with an opportunity to tell our Production Team of any known conflicts with the rehearsal schedule. We will take note of these and plan accordingly.

If you have questions about the schedule and conflicts, please email parker@gckidsonstage.org

Auditions

No experience is needed to participate in this Rising Star Academy Summer Camp Production. While everyone receives a role, auditions are still held to place each cast member in the perfect role for them.

Auditions for Willy Wonka JR will take place on Saturday, May 18th from 1-5 PM at the Greene County Wellness Center.

After registering for the production, an email will be sent to the parent/guardian with instructions for accessing the scenes & songs needed for auditions. They will be asked to sing, dance, and act using materials provided ahead of the audition. Audition materials will be provided no later than May 1st. Details about an audition prep class will be shared with those who are registered to audition.

At home practice for these auditions will be super important because we want cast members to be confident with the material and also perform their very best. However, remember that everyone will get a role in the end. We hope these are low-pressure/low-stakes experiences for our Rising Stars!
