Disney's The Little Mermaid JR

A Rising Star Academy

Open Registration for Ages 5-16 (as of February 21)

The Experience

By registering for this Rising Stars Academy Production, your cast member will participate in a fun, challenging, and engaging musical theatre experience! Through training in singing, dancing, and acting, cast members will work together toward a culminating production of Disney's The Little Mermaid JR.

Through small-group instruction and full-cast rehearsals, cast members will strengthen their performance skills, including character development and physicality, healthy vocal technique, musicality, and precision and expression in dance. Along the way, they'll learn theatrical terminology, rehearsal etiquette, and the importance of contributing to an ensemble.

Beyond developing their skills as performers, cast members will have opportunities to build confidence by taking creative risks and performing in front of others; explore creativity through character choices and storytelling; practice leadership through preparation, responsibility, and problem-solving; and strengthen their sense of community through collaboration, friendships, and working toward a shared goal. These experiences are central to our growing More Than A Musical™ framework.

At the conclusion of rehearsals, cast members will bring their learning to life in a fully produced musical complete with costumes, sets, props, theatrical lighting, and special effects! This culminating performance gives cast members the opportunity to apply their new skills, celebrate their progress, and share their hard work with a live audience.

About Disney's The Little Mermaid JR

Journey "under the sea" with Ariel and her aquatic friends in Disney's The Little Mermaid JR., adapted from Disney's Broadway production and the motion picture (featuring the enormously popular Academy Award-winning music and delightfully charming book and lyrics). Based on one of Hans Christian Andersen's most beloved stories, Disney's The Little Mermaid JR. is an enchanting look at the sacrifices we all make for love and acceptance.

In a magical underwater kingdom, the beautiful young mermaid, Ariel, longs to leave her ocean home — and her fins — behind and live in the world above. But first, she'll have to defy her father, King Triton, make a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, and convince the handsome Prince Eric that she's the girl whose enchanting voice he's been seeking.

Disney's The Little Mermaid JR is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI). All authorized performance materials are also supplied by MTI. www.mtishows.com

Auditions

No experience is needed to participate in this Rising Stars Academy Production! While everyone receives a role, auditions are held to help our creative team identify each cast member's strengths and place them in a role that supports their growth and the needs of the production.

A required parent/guardian meeting will take place immediately before auditions. During this meeting, we'll review production expectations, rehearsal commitments, important policies, and family responsibilities. A parent or guardian must attend this meeting for their cast member to be eligible to audition.

Auditions for Disney The Little Mermaid JR will take place on Sunday, February 21st from 2:00-6:30 PM at the Greene County Wellness Center.

After registering, parents/guardians will receive an email with instructions for accessing audition scenes and songs. Cast members will be asked to sing, dance, and act using materials provided in advance. Audition materials will be available no later than January 4.

At auditions, families will also complete a conflict form to identify any known scheduling conflicts with the rehearsal calendar. This information helps our Dream Team plan rehearsals, staging, and casting assignments as effectively as possible.
